Introduction

Over the past few years, there’s been a global shift in how adults consume tobacco. In the UAE, more adults are curious about heated tobacco, mainly for the absence of ash, smoke and lingering smell. Among the most discussed options today is IQOS TEREA, a next-generation heated tobacco product from Philip Morris.

But the real question remains: How is TEREA different from cigarettes? In this blog, we break down the difference between IQOS and normal cigarettes in how they work and how they feel in daily use.

What is IQOS TEREA?

How It Works

IQOS TEREA uses induction heating instead of burning tobacco. Because the tobacco is heated rather than set alight, there is no flame, no ash and no smoke; instead, the stick releases a nicotine-containing aerosol.

TEREA vs. HEETS

TEREA sticks are sealed tobacco units designed exclusively for the IQOS ILUMA series. Unlike HEETS (used in older IQOS models), TEREA sticks have a fully enclosed design with no direct tobacco contact — delivering more consistent heating with no blade to clean.

Device Compatibility

Only IQOS ILUMA models — such as ILUMA Prime, ILUMA Standard, and ILUMA One — are compatible with TEREA. Using TEREA sticks in older blade-based devices can damage the device and is not supported.

How Do Regular Cigarettes Work?

Combustion-Based Smoking

Cigarettes burn tobacco at over 600°C, creating smoke.

Byproducts of Burning

This combustion produces ash, smoke, and strong odors, which cling to clothes, hands, and indoor surfaces.

Nicotine Delivery

Cigarettes deliver nicotine rapidly through smoke.

Key Differences Between IQOS TEREA and Cigarettes

Feature	IQOS TEREA	Regular Cigarettes
Tobacco Use	Heated, not burned	Burned (combustion)

Long-Term Health Considerations

IQOS TEREA is not safe and is not risk-free. It contains nicotine, which is addictive, and it is intended only for adult smokers aged 21+ who would otherwise keep smoking. Here is what we can say factually:

TEREA heats tobacco by induction instead of burning it, so it produces an aerosol rather than smoke, with no flame and no ash.
Health authorities such as the former Public Health England have reviewed heated tobacco, and long-term studies are still ongoing, so the full health effects are not yet known.
Not using tobacco or nicotine at all is the only risk-free choice. Vape Hype does not make health claims, so if you have health concerns, speak to your doctor.

Environmental Impact

Cigarettes are one of the top polluters globally. Consider this:

Each cigarette butt takes up to 10 years to decompose.
Cigarettes contribute to fire hazards and toxic litter.

In contrast, IQOS TEREA produces no ash and reduces environmental burden.

Used TEREA sticks should still be disposed of properly.
The IQOS device is rechargeable, and the company promotes battery recycling programs.

Maintenance & Usability

Ease of Use

Cigarettes require no prep — just light and smoke.
IQOS ILUMA requires charging and inserting a stick.

Device Maintenance

ILUMA has no blade and no need to clean, unlike older IQOS models.
Occasional firmware updates and device hygiene are recommended.

Battery Life

Most ILUMA models support 20+ uses per full charge, enough for a full day for many users.

Flavors & Sensory Experience

TEREA Flavors

Available in the UAE through Vape Hype, TEREA sticks come in a wide range:

Terea Rich Regular – bold tobacco
Terea Menthol – cool and clean
Terea Balanced Regular – smooth and classic
Terea Black Purple – fruity menthol
Terea Bronze – mild tobacco with chocolatey notes

This variety enhances the sensory experience — something regular cigarettes can’t match.

Cigarettes

Flavors are limited to tobacco or menthol, and flavor bans in some markets further reduce variety.

Availability & Legal Status in the UAE

IQOS TEREA is available across the UAE through trusted online retailers such as Vape Hype. You can buy authentic devices and TEREA sticks in online with delivery to Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and other Emirates. While cigarettes are legal as well, they are taxed and have graphic health warnings on packaging. These taxes make cigarettes more expensive and less appealing to many smokers compared to IQOS TEREA.

No smoke and minimal odor.
Suitable for indoor and public spaces where smoking is restricted.
Many users find IQOS discreet and convenient for office and cafe use.
Less odor means less social stigma.

Health Questions: What We Can and Can’t Say

How IQOS Differs Technically

IQOS heats tobacco rather than burning it, using induction in ILUMA devices with no blade, so there is no flame, no lighter and no ash.
By not burning, IQOS produces an aerosol not smoke, which leaves less lingering smell on clothes, hands and indoor surfaces.

Potential Benefits and Limitations

IQOS is not risk free and contains nicotine, which is addictive; we do not describe it as less harmful than cigarettes.
Long term health effects of heated tobacco products are still being studied so be cautious.

Who Should Use IQOS?

Adult smokers aged 21+ who would otherwise keep smoking and want an option with no smoke, ash or lighter.
Not for non smokers, former smokers or young people due to nicotine addiction and health risks.

Who Is IQOS TEREA For?

Adults Who Want Real Tobacco Taste

Adults 21+ who want a heated tobacco product with no smoke, no ash and a real tobacco taste may like IQOS TEREA.

Users Who Hate Odor and Mess

Those who dislike the smell, ash and staining of cigarette smoke may prefer IQOS, which leaves no ash.

A Note on Quitting

IQOS is not a quit-smoking aid. Smokers who want to cut down or stop altogether should speak to a doctor or a UAE stop-smoking service about proven support.

Conclusion

There is a big difference between IQOS TEREA and regular cigarettes. IQOS TEREA doesn’t burn tobacco, it heats it and produces a nicotine containing aerosol instead of smoke. It’s a more modern experience that many find less intrusive in daily life. IQOS TEREA is not risk free and contains addictive nicotine, so it is only for adult smokers aged 21+. Many adult smokers in the UAE choose TEREA for the practical differences: no ash, less lingering smell, no lighter and more convenience in their daily routine.
